Barzilla Barker, wife of Thos. C. Barker, died at 8 o’clock a.m. February 4, 1898; aged 73 years and 30 days.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Martin, at the M. E. church, at Macksburg, of which she was a member, at 11 a.m. A large number, considering the weather, were out to pay a tribute of respect. Rev. Martin preached a very impressive sermon.

Her maiden name was Hurd. She came with her parents from Kentucky, when a child, to Indiana. At the age of 27 she was married, and moved to Iowa in 1855. She had six children; five with the husband are alive and Henry Barker, Burtz Keny and Lon Bridge, of Kansas, were with her in her last sickness to do for her all that loving hands could.

She fought the battles of life nobly, became a Christian early in life and united with the Methodist church.

Her last sickness, pneumonia, was only of about ten days duration, but suffered severely. With it all she had a sure and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and only the day before she died wished she could go and be with Him. A glorious and peaceful death without a murmur or struggle.

All the family and friends feel very grateful for the sympathy and help in this time of trial.
