James Monaghan, one of the oldest citizens of the county, died at his residence in Douglas township Sunday. Mr. Monaghan was the victim of a paralytic stroke three or four years ago and since then he has been in very feeble health.

He was a resident of Winterset for many years where he was a successful blacksmith and moved to his farm in Douglas township on North River many years ago. He was one of our most successful stock breeders and farmers and was quite wealthy. His death will be regretted by his many friends all over this portion of the state.
