A funeral service was held Monday, May 3, at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown for Lena M. Schirm, a former Madison county resident who died April 29 at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital. Mrs. Schirm had been in failing health since December, when she underwent heart surgery. She was 48 years old.

Born November 18, 1933 in Lucas county, she was the daughter of Lennie and Belva Weakland.

On October 5, 1952, she married Rev. Harold Schirm at St. Charles. The couple had resided in Beaman, Iowa for the past three years.

Mrs. Schirm was a member of the Albion and Beaman United Methodist churches, where her husband is acting minister; the United Methodist Womens Group of both churches; Beaman Federated Womens Club; Beaman American Legion Auxiliary; St. Elmo Chapter 396; Waterloo District Ministers Wives Association; and a charter member of the Winfield, Iowa Charlie Tuna Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sisters; three brothers; and a son, Gregory. Survivors include her husband, Harold; a son, Edward; and three daughters, Suzanne, Kathryn and Sharon (all at home).

Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery.
