Harry A. Skaggs, 68, of Earlham passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at his home. Memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 30th at New Hope Assembly Student Campus Chapel (6800 Townsend Ave, Urbandale). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the New Hope Mission Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250.
Harry was born March 16, 1948 to Harry and Helen (Lane) Skaggs in St. Charles, Iowa. The family moved to Earlham when Harry was a teenager. He attended Earlham Schools and graduated from Earlham High School with the class of 1966. Following high school he began working for Ozark Airlines, TWA and American Airlines. He held a variety of jobs within the airlines in his 37 years, lastly working the baggage ramp. He also served several years as a union representative. His last ten years were spent working for ADP in data processing. On April 9, 1998 he was united in marriage to Mary Groh in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Harry was a member of the New Hope Assembly of God in Urbandale and served many years for the Dallas County Little League. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, boating and camping. Harry and Mary enjoyed traveling together, especially going on cruises. Harry was also an AVID New York Yankees baseball fan and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Helen Skaggs.
Harry leaves behind his wife, Mary of Earlham; children: Kimberly Skaggs of Nevada, Christopher (Michelle) Skaggs of Adel and Paul Skaggs of Omaha; step-children: William (Amanda) Crandall of Waukee, Melanie (Edward) Peden of South Carolina and David (Stacey) Crandall of North Carolina; special-nephew, Jaime Belding (Lori Devault) of Earlham; grandchildren: Jordan, Brianna, Kealee, Rhayne, Drew, Rachel, Rebecca, Madison, Taylor, Lauren, Zach, Cheyenne and Bella; sister, Carol Belding (Lloyd Kight) of Earlham; special feline buddy “Booties”; and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
