Edgar J. Harrell, 80, of Lakeland, Fla., died Saturday, July 2, 2016, from complications of a stroke.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Paula J. Baber Hospice Home (2630 9th Ave. S, Ft. Dodge IA 50501).
Ed was born on May 2, 1936, in Winterset, Iowa, the oldest son of Charles and Carrie Harrell. He grew up in Winterset and was a 1954 graduate of Winterset High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Airborne Division from 1954-1956. He lived in Newport News, Va., until his retirement. He returned to Iowa to live at Gilmore City, until moving to Florida. Ed loved to landscape, do home improvements and spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Dorothy Jackson Harrell and Dorothy Cook Harrell; and brothers, Larry, Don and David Harrell.
He is survived by his daughters, Angie (Clay) Kritzer of Gilmore City, Michelle (Tim) Lee of Chantilly, Va., and Cary (Robb) Spewak of Fairfax, Va.; step daughters Janice (Bob) Fallacara of Bentonville, Ark., Patti (Dave) Herman of Norwalk, and Pam (Keith) Elliott of Prairie City; step son, Bruce (Linda) Book; four grandchildren; a step great-granddaughter; brother, Howard Harrell of Winterset; cousin, Doris Weller of Truro; sister-in-law, Ruth Peters of Manson; and several other family members and friends.
