Vincent was drafted in the Army, serving 2 years. He served his country in the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1953.

Upon returning home, he married Charlotte Goetz of Fontanelle, on June 1, 1953 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. To this union, five children were born. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979.

He then was hired by Hallet’s Construction Company in the Boone and Ames gravel pits, where he operated cranes and drag lines. Vincent also did many odd jobs in the Madrid area, including concrete masonry work and tree removal. This work continued after moving to Stuart. He retired to Nebraska for a few years and then moved to be closer to his family in Winterset.

He was a member of the Madrid and Winterset VFW, along with being a member at the American Legion in Madrid and Dexter. He served many different positions while being a member at these posts, including being the Commander in the Madrid VFW.
