Phil D. Bertholf Dies in Cleveland

Phil D. Bertholf, 52, a former resident of Creston, died at Cleveland, O., last Wednesday, according to word received here. Funeral services and burial were held at Norfolk, Nebr.

Mr. Bertholf was born in Madison county but came to Creston as a child and grew up here. He attended Creston schools. He enlisted in Creston's national guard Company C when he was 15 and was enroute to France with the company to serve in World war I on his 16th birthday. In France he served as a dispatch rider for Gen. Douglas MacArthur when he was brigade and division commander.

He is survived by his widow, Mildred; and two brothers, Cheney L. Bertholf, retired army colonel who lives in Hawaii, and R. Wayne Bertholf of Billings, Mont.
