Rev. Wm. J. Ruby an esteemed citizen of this community fell asleep in Jesus, Thursday, June 27th in the 43rd year of his life. For many years he had been an acceptable member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; and since 1860 had held a license as a local preacher in that denomination.
His last illness was protracted through many weary months but though suffering much, he suffered patiently. In the early part of this sickness he expressed a feeling of condemnation, because he had been in the past too much engrossed by worldly cares, and a desire for worldly success; but this conscious failure he was soon enabled to cast upon the atoning merits of Christ and from that time his peace was "like a river." When near the last hour, his daughter said to him, Pa you're almost home. With a quiet smile he whispered "yes, that beautiful home."
His family, the church and the community mourn their great loss, but Heaven already shouts over another soul that has come "sweeping through the gates, washed in the blood of the lamb."
