BETH FLANDER, Winterset

Beth Flander, 82, of Winterset, Iowa, died Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Winterset Care Center South in Winterset. Per her wishes, her body will be cremated at the conclusion of her visitation. Visitation will be from noon to 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, June 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Dan Kirby officiating. Her cremains will be interred in the Winterset Cemetery.

Beth was born on September 23, 1933, at Iowa City, Iowa to Edward and Mary Regina “Jean” (Carroll) Hogan. She grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High in 1952. On March 2, 1954, Beth married Leonard M. Flander at Iowa City. Following Len’s graduation they moved to Des Moines in 1959 and then to Winterset in 1964. Beth was the office manager for Len’s law practice. She had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Progressive Study Club, Lakeview Country Club, the Jolly Dozen, Child Welfare, the Appletree Players, V.F.W. Auxiliary, was the first woman to serve on the Winterset City Council, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Beth is survived by her daughters, Susan Flander and Gina (David) Robinson; son, Terry (Becky) Flander; grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Simpson, Bradley (Kristin) Robinson, Trent (Falon) Flander, Mallory (Derek) Andreassen and Haley (Ryan) Dudrow; and two great grandchildren, McKenna and Cohen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Jean (Carroll) Hogan; husband, Len Flander; and brothers, Eugene Hogan and Carroll Hogan.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to HCI Hospice.
