May 24, 1948 - May 9, 2016John Puderbaugh, 67, of Peru, Iowa, died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, Iowa, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset, Iowa. Burial will take place in the Merle Hay Cemetery in Glidden, Iowa, at 3:00 p.m., May 18. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com.
John Royce Puderbaugh, son of Ronald and Genevieve (Mitchell) Puderbaugh, was born May 24, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High School in 1966. John served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968-1970, and was honorably discharged. He continued his education at Drake University and graduated with a degree in History. John was united in marriage with Sheryl Meisheid on October 2, 1971 at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa, and to this union eight children were born.
John worked at Western International Agriculture in Des Moines, Iowa, for most of his working career. He was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. John had a passion for Western culture and spending time on their farm. He was a past 4-H member, parent, and leader. He loved attending the Madison County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. John instilled his love of animals in his children, especially his love of horses. He taught his children to raise and train horses. John was an avid reader, Western history and military history being his favorite subjects. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished nothing more than spending time on the farm with his family, friends, and horses.
Those left to cherish John’s memory are his wife of 44 years, Sheryl Puderbaugh of Peru; eight children, David (Erin Kaufman) Puderbaugh of Iowa City; Jennifer (Graham) Giles of Urbandale; James (Kim) Puderbaugh of St. Charles; Adam (Brianne) Puderbaugh of Des Moines; Aaron (Amanda) Puderbaugh of Ankeny; Mary (Jordan) Pohlmann of Montezuma; Sarah (Jacob) Daniels of West Des Moines; Hannah Puderbaugh of Peru; ten grandchildren, Ethan, Colin, and Simon Giles, Kate, Esther, Adeline, Caleb, Bryce, and Lincoln Puderbaugh, Elisabeth Pohlmann; sister, Lois Bird of Iowa City; brother, Steven (Deb) Puderbaugh of Candia, NH; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Genevieve Puderbaugh; sister, Karen Puderbaugh in infancy; and brother-in-law, Gary Bird.
