Rosa Hiatt Ellis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hiatt, was born at Martinsville, Ohio, July 5th, 1854 and died June 16, 1935 at Conway Springs, Kansas.

When she was ten years of age, she moved with her parents to Iowa. Rosa Hiatt was married to T. L. Ellis near Truro, Iowa on April 26, 1874.

In this home eight children were born, one, Mary Inez, dying in infancy; three others have preceded their mother in death: Mentor in 1918; Lottie (Ellis) Needham in 1919, and Sylvia (Ellis) Harris in 1920.

In 1901, the family moved to Leavenworth County, Kansas, then to a farm near Conway Springs, Kansas.

Mrs. Ellis was a birthright member of the Friends church, but in later years united with the Methodist Episcopal church here. She has ever been a faithful and efficient worker in the church and its organizations, having been especially interested in Sunday School and the Missionary Society.

Her consistent living wielded a great influence for the things which make for righteousness and well being. She was a devoted wife and mother, having had the privilege of sixty-one years of married life, and besides her own family, she took her mother's place in caring for two motherless grandchildren.

Those who survive her are her husband, T. L. Ellis (who because of illness cannot be present), two sons, Gurney Ellis of Emmett, Idaho (who is not present), and Frank Ellis of Baldwin, Kansas; two daughters (who assisted in caring for her in her last illness) Mrs. Vivian Laughlin of Lawrence, Kansas, and Mrs. Cora Black, who with her son have made their home with them for recent years. There are sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Hiatt, of Claremont, California; Thomas Hiatt of Ackworth, Iowa; an Newton Hiatt of Denver, Colorado.
