WEAVER J. PORTER, Peru, Iowa

March 12, 1925 - April 15, 2016

Weaver Jacob Porter was born March 12, 1925 in Walnut Township, Madison County, Iowa, the son of Lee Andrew and Leona Mattie (Honnold) Porter. Weaver passed away late Friday night, April 15, 2016, at Westbridge Care Center in Winterset at the age of ninety-one.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare in Winterset. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2016. Memorials may be made to the family.

Weaver started school early, at the young age of four, in order to have enough children to keep Ferris School in Union Township open that year. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1941 and has lived in Madison County most of his life.

In October of 1944, he married Jaquelynn J. Black. They had three children, Gayle Lynn, Utonda Jon, and Wade Joyce. This marriage ended in divorce in 1951.

On January 23, 1953, he married Veronica Mae Roush in Adel, Iowa. They had three children: William Martin, Matthew Scott, and Cynthia Jo. Veronica passed away June 24, 2014.

From 1953 to 1959, Weaver worked for the Iowa State Conservation Commission. He farmed for several years one mile east of East Peru in Walnut Township and also five miles east of Winterset in Union Township. After 1967 he operated a road maintainer for the Madison County Road Department based in Walnut Township. In 1981, he built an earth berm home just west of the United Methodist Church in East Peru.

Weaver enjoyed raising and riding saddle horses as well as giving horses to his grandchildren and teaching them to ride. He loved to hunt & fish. He also enjoyed reading westerns and telling stories.

Weaver is survived by his six children: Gayle (Henry) Kibbe of Peru; Toni (Dan) Waltz of Winterset, Wade (Becky) Porter of Winterset, Bill (Tonja) Porter of Peru; Matthew (Sandy) Porter of Peru, and Cindy Porter of Winterset;

He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Steve Bush, Charlotte Speer, Jacki Graeve, Todd Porter, Brett Porter, Justin Porter, Bart Porter, Colt Porter, Fona Holtry, Seth Porter, Ashley Porter, Jason Reasoner, Angela Holtry, and Rachel Miller. He is also survived by thirty great grandchildren: Skylar Speer, Trenton Speer, Tanner Speer, Troyce White, Utonda White, Rick Bush, Tanner Porter, Tessa Porter, Taylar Porter, Tori Porter, Karli Porter, Kelsey Porter, Maddison Porter, Jacob Porter, Lucas Porter, Briley Porter, Carson Porter, Lillian Porter, Raylan Porter, Mazie Woods, Mikailyn Holtry, Linda Holtry, Maddie Holtry, Logan Porter, Aubree Porter, Jesse Holtry, Quentin Holtry, Montana Holtry, Wyatt Miller, and Cheyenne Miller; and two great-great grandchildren, Cambrie Johnson and Will Speer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Veronica, brother Leslie Porter; and grandson Jesse James Porter.
