MADISON COUNTY RESIDENT 93 YEARS DIED LAST WEEK

Mrs. Isabelle Worthing, 96, Came From Indiana in 1853

Mrs. Isabelle Worthing, whose long life in Madison county spanned nearly a century of time, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kay Shearer of Peru.

Mrs. Worthing was 96 years of age. She came to this county in 1853 as a 3-year-old child from Indiana, and had she lived seven more years, would have spent a hundred years in Madison county.

Mrs. Worthing was the former Isabelle Charity Walker, daughter of Samuel and Caroline Walker, and was born December 28, 1849, in Indiana. When she was 3 years old she came with her parents to this county. They settled in the Ebeneezer (sic) neighborhood, and the remainder of her life was spent in Madison county.

On Nov. 19, 1869, she was married to James Watson Smith. They were the parents of four sons and five daughters. The husband died in 1914, and all but two of the children preceded the mother in death.

In later life she was married to J. E. Worthing, who died nine years after their marriage.

Mrs. Worthing was united with the Methodist church in early life, and was an active member as long as her health would permit. She had been confined to her bed for the last two years.

She is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Shearer; and one son, Fred Smith of Douglas, Wyo. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Margaret Taylor or Truro; two brothers, Elza Walker of San Francisco, Calif., and Nat Walker of Truro; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Saturday from the Peru Methodist church in charge of the pastor the Rev. J. D. Stevens, and burial was made in the Ebeneezer (sic) cemetery.
