Joan Brown, 75, of Winterset died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Winterset Care Center South.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 20, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 21, at Ochiltree’s in Winterset with burial to follow in the Worthington Church Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Genesis Development and Worthington United Methodist Church and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com.

Joan Arlene Beaman, daughter of Harold and Gladys (Olson) Beaman, was born September 26, 1940, in Madison County, Iowa.  She graduated from Earlham High School in 1959, and was united in marriage to Donald D. Brown on April 16, 1961 at Worthington United Methodist Church.

Many will remember Joan’s work as a talented seamstress which she did out of her home so she could be home with her children. Later she worked at the Walker’s Cleaners in Winterset as a seamstress for many years.

She was a member of the Worthington United Methodist Church where she was an active member and was the organist for many years.  Joan also enjoyed her involvement with the Sweet Adelines and square dancing.  Above all else, she was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly.

Joan is survived by her husband, Donald D. Brown, two children, Brian (Dena) Brown and Teresa Brown all of Winterset; 3 grandchildren: Claire Brown, Elizabeth (Zach) Newbrough and Cassandra Brown; great granddaughter, Kiona Newbrough, a brother, Russell (Ruth) Beaman of Adel.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
