Katherine Hartfield, 82, of Winterset died Monday, March 14, 2016 at the West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset.

A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A memorial service will begin at 5:00 p.m., Saturday March 19, at the Ochiltree Funeral Service. A burial will take place at a later date in the North McDonald Cemetery near Winterset. Memorials may be made to the family and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com.

Katherine Naomi Boatwright, daughter of Amos and Odessa (Dawson) Boatwright, was born June 17, 1932 in Des Moines. She attended a rural school near her home. Katherine was united in marriage with Lawrence Taylor Hartfield on June 20, 1948, at Lawrence parents’ home in Madison County. Five children were born to this union.

Katherine ran and cooked at the Am. Vets Club in Clarinda. She was a talented cook and baker, who was famous for her sugar pie. Katherine was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She had a passion for taking care of animals and turned none away. The family’s pets included: dogs, cats, birds, a three-legged pig, squirrels, a lamb and many other animals. Above all else, Katherine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished nothing more than the time she was able to spend with her friends and family.

Katherine is survived by her children, Larry (Donna) Hartfield of Council Bluffs; Kathi (Jim) Bryan of Winterset; Anne (Gary Davis) Withers of Winterset; Tom (Susanne Smith) Hartfield of Germany; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sisters, Odessa (John) Westlake of Des Moines; Neva (Gene) Coughran of Stevensville, MT; son-in-law, George Davidshofer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence in 1989; daughter, Pam Davidshofer; grandson, Robert Hartfield; great granddaughter Zoe Ball; brothers, Amos, Jim, and Walter; sisters, Ruby, Phoebe, Alpha, Georgia, and Mary.
