Shirley Ann (Gamble) Steel, Carlisle

Shirley Ann (Gamble) Steel, 81, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Carlisle Center for Assisted Living. Shirley Ann was born on February 19, 1935 in Winterset, Iowa to Vera (Mapes) and Russell Gamble.

Shirley graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954. She was an All-State Basketball player her senior year. She drove a school bus for the Carlisle School District for over 27 years, retiring in 1998. She was a long time member of Carlisle United Methodist Church and also attended Berean Assembly of God for several years. Shirley loved her family and the Lord.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her daughter, Debbie Sanders; grandson, Matthew Sanders; two great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly (Bob) Claman; brothers, H.D. "Doc" Gamble and Jerry (Joyce) Gamble; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Sally Ann Sanders and sister in-law, Mary Ann Gamble.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines, with a memorial service to begin at 12:00 p.m. noon.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Shirley's daughter, Debbie.
