Mrs. B. L. Brown
Helen Louisa Preston was born at Freeport, Ill., Sept. 21, 1838 and died Oct. 7, 1922 at the age of 84 years and 16 days, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C S. Cochrane, of Truro.
On Dec. 24, 1856, at Aledo, III., she was married to Benjamin L. Brown, who died Aug. 22. 1912. To this union were born twelve children, three of whom died in infancy, Lizzie at the age of 24 years and Charles in 1918. The surviving children are: Louis, Harry and William and Mrs. Essie Coleman, all of Corning; Mrs. Amanda Conn of Prescott; Mrs. Laura Crisp of Bryant, S. D.; Mrs. Lydia Cochrane of Truro.
Besides her children, she leaves 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Susan Brown of Viola, Ill.; two half brothers: Frank Antrim of Ainsworth, Nebr., and Alpheus Antrim of Aledo, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved from Aledo, Ill., to Corning, Iowa in 1880 where she lived the remainder of her life, except seven years spent with her daughter, Mrs. Lydia Cochrane of Truro.
In early life she united with the Church of Christ and remained a faithful Christian until her death. She a true wife and mother and kind neighbor. The last 25 years of her life she was an invalid, but was a patient sufferer to the last.
Short services were held at the home of her daughter in Truro on Sunday, conducted by Rev. Raybourn. The body was taken to Corning on Monday, where services were held at the Church of Christ, conducted by Rev Mrs. Dessie Palalas. Interment was made in Brooks cemetery.
