Curtis Mackie, Norwalk

Curtis S. Mackie, age 74, of Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Curt was born July 28, 1941, in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp in 1960 serving two tours in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge in 1970, he attended Drake University graduating with a degree in business management in 1974. Curt was a personnel manager for several different companies including, Des Moines Western Tool & Stamping, AMF, Western International, and Pittsburg Des Moines Steel. He retired from the Des Moines Airport TSA in 2006. His activities included the Warren County Izaak Walton League, Madison County Sportsman Club, the ROMEO's, and a multi-year election poll volunteer. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He married the love of his life, Twila Zimmer, on April 12, 1967 in Hawaii. Together they made their home in Chicago, and later Des Moines, moving to Norwalk 1974. They have been members of the Martensdale Community Church for many years.

Curt is survived by his wife, Twila, of Norwalk; his children, Michelle Mackie and her daughters, Alexandra and Jessica of Clive, Michael Mackie and his daughters, Abigail and Brigit of Des Moines; his siblings, Ken Mackie of Green Bay, WI, and Colleen Hoerl of Phoenix, AZ; and his beloved dog, Patches. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ellen Richter, of Eagle River, WI.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 30th at Martensdale Community Church in Martensdale, IA. Memorials in his name to be designated by the family will be appreciated.
