Beulah Emily (Varley) Nevitt

Beulah Emily (Varley) Nevitt, 93, of rural Madison County Iowa, passed away January 18, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital. Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in Penn Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beulah Nevitt Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Beulah was the daughter of Charles Everett Varley and Esther May (Fritz) Varley in Adair County. Beulah grew up on the family farm south of Stuart, and graduated from Menlo High School in 1940.

Beulah married her high school sweetheart Jay Nevitt at the Jefferson Center Church February 14th, 1942, Born to this union were eight children: Emily Binning (deceased) husband Gordon of Salmon, Idaho; Mary Koboldt and husband Bruce of Earlham, Iowa; Jayne Smith and husband Larry of Perry, Iowa; Tom Nevitt and wife Linda of Perry, Iowa; Bob Nevitt of Perry, Iowa; Jim Nevitt and wife Sherrie of Menlo, Iowa; Patti Kenworthy and husband Dick of Earlham, Iowa; Carol Nordeen and husband Dan of Lansing, Michigan. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Charles Varley of Stuart.

Jay and Beulah lived and raised their family on their farm south of Dexter where they lived for many blessed years (over 55 years). They farmed and raised Angus cattle for over 20 of those years. Beulah was an amazing cook, she worked at Bentlers Café and Dexter Café, and everyone talked about the amazing pies, chicken noodles, and even her oatmeal. Her favorite customers were the eight loving children that they raised and taught the family recipes to. She and Jay enjoyed making cookies and other goodies for the grandchildren and family members. She enjoyed reading and spent many an evening watching Iowa State play basketball and football.

Beulah loved the Lord and gave her life to him at a young age and shared her faith openly to all of those around her. She attended the Methodist Church in Dexter, and enjoyed going to weekly bible study. She loved being with family and encouraging everyone in all they did.

Beulah was proceeded in death by her husband Jay Nevitt, father Charles Everett, mother Esther, sisters Betty and Glenna
