Jane Cowherds was born in Green county, Kentucky, March 6th, 1847, and died at her home in St. Charles, Monday, June 21st, 1926. She was united in marriage to George H. Cheek, September 29th, 1868. To this union were born four children, two of them, Ida and Jerry, preceding her In death. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Luther of Omaha, and V B. Cheek of St. Charles, four grand children, and two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Kinnaird of Thayer, and Mrs. Reynolds of Commer, Kentucky. She was 79 years, 3 months and 16 days old.
They came to Iowa in 1871 and have lived in and near St. Charles most of the time since.
Funeral services were conducted in the, Christian church, of which she was a member, by her pastor, Rev. C. F. Schmidt, last Thursday afternoon, and her remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery west of town.
