Page 1Byron Henry Baker was born in Burlington, Iowa, December 7th, 1851, and died February 21, 1915, having attained the age of 63 years, 2 months and 14 days.
In 1855 his parents moved to Madison county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and in 1857 was united in marriage to Miss Lantie Hiatt. In 1882 he came with his family to Nebraska and located near Tilden upon the place where he resided until his demise. Seven sons were born to this happy union: Milan D., Clyde O., Frank W., Clem G. and Floyd, all of Tilden, Nebraska, and Earl of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Fred Clair who died in infancy.
He was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church with which he united in 1890. He was the oldest of fifteen children, and his father dying early left him to be the provider and protector of the family, therefore he has been regarded by his brothers and sisters much as a father. His brothers and sisters who attended the funeral were William Baker, of Peru, Iowa, Samuel Baker, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Black, of Winterset, Iowa, and Mrs. Silliman, of Indianola, Iowa. John, Sherman and Eldon Baker were not able to be present.
The deceased was a man among men, always filled with ambitious and attainment of success. He was ever cheerful and was always ready to forget his own ease to sacrifice for the good of others. His love for his family was always uppermost in his mind and to see his sons succeed was his highest ambition.
