Miss Duncan, 77, East Peoria, Dies

Miss E. Maude Duncan, 77, of 1141 E. Washington Street, East Peoria, retired school teacher, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday at Methodist hospital where she had been a patient two days.

Born at Earlham, Iowa, May 17, 1879, she was a daughter of Samuel Harper and Barbara Gordon Duncan. She formerly taught at Roosevelt grade school in East Peoria from 1928 to 1936 and earlier had taught for 27 years in the schools at Mercer county. She formerly was principal of the rural schools there.

Active in club and church work, Miss Duncan was a member of the Methodist church at Seaton and a charter member of the Sisters of Charity Chapter, OES, at Seaton. She also was a charter member of the White Shrine at Galesburg and a member of Fort Clark Chapter, U.S. Daughters of 1812, the Peoria Historical Society, Peoria Chapter, DAR, and the Peoria Academy of Science.

Surviving is one niece, Mrs. Lloyd Beckman of Peoria.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Schmidt Funeral Parlors in East Peoria. The Rev. H. Russell Coulter of East Peoria First Methodist church officiated. Burial was made in Fondulac cemetery in East Peoria.
