BETTY ANN CHANEY, Osceola, Iowa

Obituary for Betty Chaney

Betty Ann Chaney, daughter of Cecil Robert Ethington and LaVonna Pearl "Sunny" Dixon Ethington Greenwalt was born May 17, 1947 in Creston, Iowa and passed from this life Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Clarke County Hospital at 68 years of age.

Betty received her education at Interstate 35 High School graduating in 1965. She also attended Southwestern Community College in Creston where she received her Associates Degree.

Shortly after her graduation from high school, Betty was united in marriage to Edward Dale Scrivner and they were the parents of four children, Rodger, Kathleen, Christy and Bob. After nearly twenty years of marriage, Ed died in 1986 after a short battle with cancer. Betty later met Loyal Dean Chaney and on May 21, 1988 they were united in marriage in Osceola, Iowa.

Through the years Betty's working career spanned various avenues. She began working as a beautician and farm wife, then later managed a Breadeaux Pizza franchise. After her marriage to Dean, she spent several years as a Veterinarian Tech and was later the business manager and co-owner for Chaney Twin Service. Most recently, Betty could be seen as a team manager and later a night auditor for Lakeside Casino.

It could be said without a doubt that one of Betty's greatest joys was the time she spent with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, painting, knitting and crocheting. She loved photography, flower arranging and drawing, traveling and going on cruises. The Iowa State Fair had a special place in her heart and she thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with her family, friends and caretakers on Facebook!

Betty was preceded in death by her parents: first husband, Edward Dale Scrivner; sister, Sheri Phipps; grandson, Caleb James Hockel; brothers-in-law, Bob Stocker, Jim LaPlaunt and Lyle Chaney; and her nephew, Robert Chaney.

She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Dean Chaney of Osceola, IA; children, Rodger (Kana) Scrivner, Kathleen (Dave) Knight, Christy (Brian) Lundy and Bob (Susan) Scrivner; 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by: her sisters, Debra L. Stocker and Marcia Freely McCulloch Berger; brother, Cecil Robert (Louise) Ethington, Jr.; brother-in-law, Dennis (Kay) Chaney; sisters-in-law, Jan LaPlaunt and Janiece (Dave) Emm; nieces Tara Lynn & family, Tiffany Hillyer & family, Janelle Dickman & family, CiCi Smith & family Meghan Lievanos & family, and Sunita Phipps & family; nephews Robert Ethington & family, Eric McCullough & family, and Trevor Phipps & family, as well as numerous other relatives (Scrivners) and many, many friends whom she loved as family.
