Amy Lorraine Martens, 88, of rural Winterset, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 19 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 20 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter with burial to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, Autism Society of Iowa, and Christian Crusaders. Online condolences may be made to the family at ochiltree.com.

Amy Lorraine Stump was born July 11, 1927 in DeSoto, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ethel (Golden) Stump. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1945 and attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. While in high school, she met her future husband, William Martens. They were married on September 7, 1948 and raised six children north of Winterset. They celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Lorraine was a farmwife and homemaker. She also worked fifteen years at Iowa Farm Bureau in West Des Moines, retiring in 1992. She loved her family and her lifelong church, Trinity Lutheran of Van Meter. She was a devoted homemaker and dedicated volunteer for the Mary and Martha Society. She helped with 4H, taught Sunday school, and was an active church member for over 60 years. Lorraine was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, reading, and baking. She doted on her grandchildren, delighted in holding and making them part of her and Bill’s lives. Her relationship with friends and family were very important to her. She always made an effort to stay in touch. She was a loving wife and lifelong partner.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; their six children, Bill (Byrd) Martens of Milford, MI, Cheryl Thrailkill of West Des Moines, Diane (Chuck) Laughridge of Gladstone, MO, Jan (Brian) Peters of San Antonio, TX, Wayne (Debi) Martens of Winterset, and Michelle (Craig) Solberg of Johnston; sister-in-law, Vera Niendorf of Indianapolis, IN; her 14 grandchildren, Joshua (Kellie) Martens, Steve Martens, Jessica Martens, Sarah (Matt) Thompson, Alicia Embrey, Scott Thrailkill, Justin (Emily) Laughridge, Brandon (Katie) Laughridge, Nathan (Lindsay) Peters, Drew Peters, Amy (Dax) Garrett, Tom (Kayla) Martens, Elizabeth (Kirk) Hansen, and Megan Solberg; honorary grandchild, Christoph Westendorf, Wayne’s foreign exchange student, who considered Lorraine his Grandma too; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaydence and Hannah Martens, Kobey Embrey, Noah, Jonah, and Lily Laughridge, William (Will) Martens, and Isaiah Garrett. She is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Catherine Thrailkill and Nicholas Solberg; brothers, Max and Maurice; sisters, Eleanor Morris, Margaret Miles and infant sister, Phyllis.
