Was Member of Prominent Early Day Family in Madison County
Robert W. Bruce, former Madison county resident, died last Thursday, Dec. 28th at the St.
Anthony hospital in Amarillo, Texas, one day after he was hospitalized there. Mr. Bruce, who was 73 years of age, had been in poor health for a number of months.Mr. Bruce was a son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Bruce, and was born on the Bruce farm northwest of Winterset. He lived here until 1906, when he moved to a farm in Missouri. In 1917 the family moved to the Texas Panhandle and Amarillo has since been their home. Mr. Bruce was a stock farmer, and a retired auto accessories salesman. He was a member of the First Baptist church and of the Amarillo Masonic lodge.
He is survived by one son, Marion; three daughters, Miss Loraine Bruce, an instructor at Amarillo college; Mrs. Charles Lutz, all of Amarillo, and Mrs. W. W. Flewelling of Canedian, Texas. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Annie M. Niblo of Winterset, Mrs. Ray Sage of Oglivia, Minn., and Miss Della E. Bruce of Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Amarillo Saturday afternoon and burial was made in that city. Mrs. Annie Niblo, and son Dale, and daughter, Mrs. Alvin Alexander and the latter’s son, Myles Alexander, left here Friday to attend the services and returned to their homes in or near Winterset Sunday night.

Death claimed a pioneer of the Panhandle yesterday when Robert W. Bruce, 73 years old, of 907 Louisiana, died in St. Anthony’s Hospital one day after he was hospitalized there.
Mr. Bruce, who was a stock farmer and retired auto accessories salesman, came to Ralph Switch in Randall County from Winterset, Iowa, where he was born, in 1906. He moved to Amarillo in 1917.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and of Amarillo Lodge No. 731, AF& AM.
Survivors include one son, Marlon, in Amarillo; three daughters, Miss Loraine Bruce, an instructor at Amarillo College, Mrs. Charles Lutz of Amarillo and Mrs. W. W. Flewelling of Canadian; and three sisters. The latter are Mrs. Annie M. Niblo of Winterset, Mrs. Roy Sage of Oglivia, Minn.; and Miss Della E. Bruce of Long Beach,, Cal.

Funeral services for Robert W. Bruce, longtime Panhandle resident, will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon in First Baptist Church.
Officiating will be Max Bulloch, teacher of the Sunday school class of which Mr. Bruce was a member, assisted by R. E. Gatlin, educational director of Temple Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Alex Stith, Steve Hudson, John Walters, of Canadian, Ed Pipkin, Powell Combs and Marvin Erhardt.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Milligan, Dr. I. Rasco, Hugh Honey, Joe B. Gamble, Dudley Grantham, N. S. Griggs, Davis Tudor, and T. V. Slack, William Schultz and O. R. Burrow, of Canyon.
Burial will be in Llano Cemetery, under direction of N. S. Griggs & Sons.
Mr. Bruce, 73 years old, 907 Louisiana, died Thursday in St. Anthony’s Hospital, where he was taken on Wednesday.
A retired stock farmer, he came to Ralph Switch, Randall County in 1906, from Winterset, Iowa, his birthplace. He had been an Amarillo resident since 1917.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and Amarillo Lodge No. 731. AF&AM.
Survivors include a son, three daughters and three sisters.
