Eva Mae Songer, Winterset

Eva Mae Songer, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Madison County Hospital in Winterset after a lengthy battle with COPD and emphysema. She went to heaven surrounded by her family, who will miss her dearly. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren's Chapel with inurnment in the Chapel Mausoleum at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at McLaren's.

Eva was born January 2, 1936 to Clarence and Alice Zika in Des Moines. She also spent parts of her life in both Indianola and Winterset. Eva truly enjoyed her rose bushes, quilting, dancing, country music, playing her organ, collecting old dishes, slot machines, any family get together, watching her sons perform, and a dish of ice cream in the evenings. Her smiles, hugs and sense of humor were indeed precious to all who knew her.

Eva is survived by her two sons, Rodney Young of Waukee and Roger Young of Indianola; four siblings, Charlotte Pieart and Norma (Duane) Parkins of Des Moines, Gene (Janet) Zika of Altoona, and Marilyn (Donald) Little of Winterset; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Enough kind words cannot be said to thank the hospital staff and Hospice of Central Iowa for making her final hours on this earth comfortable for both her and her family.
