Ira Leonard Burd was 73 years 6 mo 24 days old when he died. Dr. D.E. Affeldt attended him, and Edna Britts was the undertaker. Death was filed February 6, 1940. He is listed as a farmer. His death is listed in Book E page 2 line 21.

Obituary reads as follows: DEATH COMES TO I. L. BURD SATURDAY After Long, Tedious Illness. I. Leonard Burd, a resident in and near Mantorville for the past 32 years, died in his home, Saturday night at the age of 74 years, of a heart attack. He has been in delicate health for many years, and his demise was not wholly unexpected, although it is always a shock when death comes.

Deceased was born in Peru, Iowa, July 9th 1866, where he spent his boyhood days and attended the public School. On Dec. 3, 1890, he was united in marriage with Miss Clara (Cora) Thurman of Atwood, Kansas, going to Illinois to make their home, later coming to Minnesota, which has been their home the past thirty two years.

They celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary December 3, 1939. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Floyd of West Concord and Gilbert of Eyota, and two daughters, Mrs Lee Meyers of West Concord and Mrs Alfred Raddatz of Pine Island and several grandchildren.

Their son, Verne, was the only Mantorville soldier killed in service during the World War and the American Legion Post organized in Mantorville was named after him.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2 o'clock at the Congregational Church, Rev. John Peters, assisted by Rev. Sanders of Pine Island, having charge of the services. Mrs. Frank Ferrin and Mrs. Wm. Campbell with Mrs. Ford Blanch at the organ sang several selections very beautifully. The bearers were Bob Meeker of Hastings, Chester Myers of West Concord and Ford Blanch, Ed Andrist, A. C. Mutchler and Henry Naegeli of the village. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville.

The floral offerings which were many and beautiful were proof conclusively of the high esteem and respect in which he was held by his many friends in the community.
