Death of Bert Burd

Bert Bird, who has been sick with appendicitis for several weeks, died at eight o’clock last Sunday morning.

As stated last week, he was taken to Des Moines and examined by a specialist, who confirmed the local physicians in pronouncing his case appendicitis. An operation was deemed necessary and it was performed by Doctors Skinner, Embree and Thompson. He seemed to stand the operation well, but the hope of saving his life was disappointed and the end came Sunday morning.

Bert was about 24 years of age, and seemed to be a hard working, well-behaved young man. He was the son of S. S. Burd, one of our oldest citizens. He leaves a wife and three-year-old son. His wife is the daughter of Charles McCleary, of this county.

The funeral was held at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon, at the home, conducted by Rev. Riheidaffer, of the Methodist church.
