Karen Kirk, 59, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by her family and under the care of a loving and caring Iowa River Hospice staff.
A Celebration of Life services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015, at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until service time at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date to New Hope Christian Church, Alive with New Hope group or Children’s Ministry, CIRSI, or Iowa River Hospice (Day of Caring). Burial will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Montpelier Cemetery north of Patterson, Iowa.
Karen Kaye Harpole was born in July 19, 1956, in the Madison County Hospital in Winterset, Iowa; she was the daughter of Francis and Helen (Foust) Harpole. Karen attended school in the Winterset Community School District graduating with the Class of 1974. On July 26, 1975, Karen was united in marriage to Michael Kirk at the United Methodist Church in Winterset, Iowa. They had resided in Winterset for a couple of years, moved to Greenfield, Iowa, back to Winterset and then to Marshalltown, Iowa for the last 30 years of her life. Karen had worked from a very young age and had worked at Attorney’s offices where ever they lived and for her last years before retiring due to health reasons she worked at Marshall County Attorney’s office as a Victim Witness Coordinator, a job she loved helping others. She always enjoyed helping others whether it be moving, painting, yard work, she enjoyed her flowers, gardening, making cards, embroidery, loved to cook, was a great cook and always shared with others. Her life was her family and extended family, her grandchildren were her life and nothing was out of reach for them as she made it happen.
Left to cherish her family is her husband of 40 years, Mike, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Daughters - Kellee (Rafael Torres) Kirk-Hernandez, Ragan Victor and Kinzee (Matt) Mashek, all of Marshalltown, Iowa, her pride and joy her grandchildren - Caleb Kirk, Jose Hernandez, Isiah Hernandez, Lily, Eli and Ella Victor and Dani Mashek, Parents - Francis (Maxine) Harpole of Prole, Iowa, Siblings - Linda (Dennis) Kraft of Winterset, Iowa, Jim (Karen) Harpole of Newhall, Iowa, Doris (Gil) Palmer of Indianola, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and the Moore Family, David, Scott, Eric, David, Skip, Meredith and Kurt.
In death Karen rejoins her mom and step dad, Lou and Helen Moore and an adopted son Larry.
