JAMES BREEDING, CALIFORNIA

James Breeding, 82, of Ojai, Calif., died on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, in an airplane accident in Santa Paula, Calif.

A celebration of Jim’s life was held Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Santa Paula Airport.

James A. Breeding was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a long time California resident, coming from Winterset, Iowa. Jim was a journeyman wireman with the IBEW, Electrical Union, retiring after 30 years. Jim proudly serviced his country as a Navy Seabee, stationed at Port Hueneme from 1952 to 1956. Jim had a love and passion for flying, learning to pilot at the age of 14; he considered Santa Paula Airport his second home for nearly 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Janis; sons, Mark and Todd; daughter, Pam; sister, Kay Darnell; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of Otto & Son’s, Channel Islands, Life Tributes & Funerals, Ventura, Calif.

Pilot killed in Santa Paula plane crash identified

The pilot killed in the crash of a twin-engine plane in oil fields north of Los Angeles has been identified. The Ventura County Star says 82-year-old James Breeding of Ojai was killed when his Cessna 337 crashed four miles southeast of the Santa Paula Airport. The Ventura Star says Breeding was trying to sell the plane. The wreckage was discovered Saturday afternoon by a passerby who spotted it on the side of a hill.
