Roger Allen Winslow was born March 11, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Jim and Opal (Belger) Winslow. Roger attended Knoxville High School and graduated from Kemper Military in Columbia, MO in 1961, and later attended Drake University. He was united in marriage to Joanne Kay (Slack) Swanson on December 22, 1990 in Des Moines at First Assembly.
For most of his working years, Roger was a salesman providing expertise in kitchen cabinetry and home renovations and eventually owned his own business, Cabinets N More in Waukee. Having worked in sales most of his life, he took great pride in his dealings with customers and always providing excellent service. After retirement, Roger worked with HyVee on Mills Civic Parkway in Des Moines and most currently at the new Winterset HyVee. This work allowed Roger to continue to provide service to others which gave him great enjoyment.
He was a very active member of the New Bridge Church of Winterset, where he was head of maintenance and grounds and served on the Church Life Worship Team. He always took initiative in so many ways around the church and above all else loved worshipping and singing gospel music. He especially loved volunteering in the church nursery taking care of and holding the little children. Those who knew him will recall how he always was first in line to step up to help others. He also enjoyed traveling, landscaping, and was talented at building and renovation. All this said, Roger was a devoted family man who loved nothing more than time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne “Jo” Winslow of Winterset; a son, Scott (Heidi) Winslow of Branson, MO; two daughters, Erica Swanson (Brian Smith) of Sunnyvale, CA and Dana Swanson of Augusta, ME; four grandchildren, Ali and Tanner Winslow and Owen and Evie Swanson-Smith; and a sister, Gloria (Vernon) Orr of Pella. He is further survived by three special nephews, Jim Orr, Terry Orr both of Ames, and Tom (Karri) Orr of Knoxville; and three special great nieces and nephew, Hallie, Andrew and Hanna Orr.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
