Death of Mark Thomas

In the death of Mark Thomas of Madison township, our county loses one of its oldest and most respected citizens. Mr. Thomas belonged to the Quaker colony which in early times, settled in the vicinity of Earlham. He was a man of thrift, intelligence, enterprising and hospitable. Many of our readers will remember the times when business or politics called them to the locality where Mr. Thomas lived, they found refreshment and entertainment at this old fashioned and hospitable home. His word was always as good as his bond and his bond would go at any bank.

He has gradually been declining for years, the vicissitudes of time and hard work and exposure having been making slow, but sure, inroads upon his once vigorous and stalwart frame. He died the latter part of last week and was buried Monday. Peace be to his ashes and long live the memory of a noble life.
