Carolyn Sue Weidman Chapman, daughter of Blair and Doris Stockert Weidman was born February 9, 1937 in Concordia, Kansas. Carolyn Sue passed away on September 16, 2015 at the age of 78.
Carolyn was one of four children. Her family moved to Winterset, Iowa when she was in 3rd grade. Carolyn Sue was known as "Sue" most of her life. When Sue became a high school student she participated in extracurricular activities including band, baton and cheerleading. Carolyn graduated from Winterset High school in 1955.
On February 17, 1962 Carolyn was united in marriage to Ronald Dean Chapman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winterset, Iowa. Ron and Sue lived in Des Moines for the first few years of marriage. To this union was born two sons, William Vance Chapman and Michael Dean Chapman. The family moved to Chariton, Iowa when Ron’s engineering career located him to the Chariton area. Here they built their new home where Sue continued to live until her death.
During her years in Chariton, Carolyn Sue was a homemaker taking very good care of her family. She also worked outside of the home at various jobs over the years. She worked at USF&G insurance company in Des Moines. Later, her working career included working at Fisher & Curtis flower shop, at the Lucas county hospital therapy department and also for the Chariton Community schools. Sue’s early years of employment with the Chariton schools included working in elementary school as an aide to the special needs students. In later years she served as study hall monitor at the high school. She loved to work with people and each of these jobs brought back fond memories.
Carolyn Sue was a member of the Chariton Catholic Church for many years. She also spent a lot of time with her fellow Yakitty Yak club members. These women had a lot of fun and she always had great times and good stories from their social get together. She remembered the fun they had on their trip to Branson, Missouri.
Sue loved to cook for her family, herself and others. She always cooked enough for threshers even though she was often alone. Sue always said that she couldn’t cook anything for just one or two servings. Her flowers and her beautiful yard were very important to her and she worked hard to make sure they looked nice.
Preceding Carolyn in death was her husband Ron; mother and father, Blair and Doris Weidman; Infant brother Michael Weidman; and a sister, Beverly Breeding. Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Bill of Chariton and Mike of Indianola. She is also survived by one Grandson, Alex Chapman, and a brother Dick and his wife Connie of Winterset. She will be missed by several nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of good friends.
Memorials may be made to the COC (Christian Opportunity Center) of Indianola in honor of Michael Chapman.
