Maxine Bek Bruett - Winterset
Nov. 26, 1922 - Sept. 7, 2015

Maxine Bek Bruett died Monday, September 7 at the Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, September 11 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 PM Thursday at McCalley Collins Funeral Home in Winterset where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

Maxine was born November 26, 1922 in Madison County, the youngest of six children born to C.C and Pearl Erickson Bek. After graduation from Winterset she received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College and taught in a one room country school for one year. She married Clifford Bruett September 25, 1945. After raising three children she returned to Drake University while teaching at I 35 in Truro, then at Winterset until her retirement in 1986 after teaching numerous kindergarten children.

Maxine was a member of the Hoosier Prairie Club, Buffalo Gals, the retired teachers group and the First United Presbyterian Church. She was an avid reader.

After Clifford passed away she moved from the family farm to Winterset where she resided until her death.

Maxine is survived by three children; Kathy (Paul) Mahan of Colorado, Paul (Cathy) Bruett of Winterset and Gary Bruett of Newton, grandchildren Mathew (Chris) Mahan, Clint Mahan, Wade (Kristin) Mahan, Timothy Bruett and Megan (Kyle) Klopfenstein, eight great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and five siblings.
