Joel M. White, a resident of Madison county for most of his long life, died at his home here Monday. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. White had suffered a stroke about two years ago, and had been in failing health since. However, his last illness was of short duration.

He was well known in both Winterset and Peru, in both of which towns he had engaged in the restaurant business.

Mr. White was born near Winterset on March 29, 1861, the son of John D. and Frances Garretson White. His early life was spent in farming. He was married Feb. 2, 1886, to Miss Anne Belle Hayden, at St. Charles. They were the parents of one daughter.

They lived for three years in Kansas, returning here to engage in the restaurant business in Winterset. They moved from here to Peru, where they also operated a cafe for a number of years. At Peru, Mr. White carried a rural mail route for 15 years. Their next move was back to Winterset, where they again engaged in the restaurant business.

Mrs. White died on March 17, 1941. Since then he had made his home with his daughter.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Velma Moore; and two grandsons, Pvt. Roslyn Moore of the U.S. army, stationed in Massachusetts, and Pfc. Kermit Moore of the U.S. Marines, stationed in California.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday from the Winterset Methodist church. The Rev. W.A. Samp, pastor of the church will have charge.
