Verna Morford, 92, of Stuart, formerly of rural Madison County, Iowa died on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 15th at the Penn Center United Methodist Church, rural Earlham. Memorial contributions may be directed the Penn Center United Methodist Church, St. Jude Hospice of Panora and/or the Stuart Community Care Center Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
She was born on June 18, 1923 to Gene and Lois (Minard) Husted in Truro, Iowa. She grew up in Truro, attended the Truro schools, and then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. While in high school she was active in 4-H and there met her future husband, Fred Morford Jr. of Dexter, Iowa. They were married August 15, 1943 and lived together on farms south of Dexter in Madison County.
Verna was a true helpmate and partner with Fred on the farm. They raised three children, Jane, Carol Ann, and David. She was active in the community where she belonged to the the Penn Center United Methodist Church and UMW, the Earlham Chautauqua Club, the Red Hats club, and the Madison County Hospital Board. She volunteered as a 4-H leader for several years. She enjoyed maintaining a lovely home and garden, the activities of her children and grandchildren, listening to music, going to farm and estate sales, and attending Iowa State sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol (Husted) Berg. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Fred; their three children, Jane (David) Hibbard of Menlo Park, CA, Carol Ann (Dave) Morris of Story City, and David (Kristy) Morford of Earlham; her sister, Doris Holz of Jefferson; her seven grandchildren, Alanna Hibbard, Chad Morris, Alex Morris, Adam Morford, Ethan Morford, Paige Morford, and Kirsten Morford; and her four great-grandchildren, Seth Morris, Scarlett Morris, Luke Morford, and Faye Morford. She is also survived by several cousins, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
