April 25, 1924 - July 29, 2015

Berdena Jones, 91, of Earlham, Iowa died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 2 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Earlham with burial to follow in the Earlham Cemetery.

Following the burial a luncheon and time of fellowship will be held at the church.

Memorials may be made to the family for designation at a later time and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com.

Berdena Harriett Johnson Jones, daughter of Byron and Bessie (Bowlsby) Johnson was born in Douglas Township, Madison County, Iowa near Winterset on April 25, 1924. She was a 1942 graduate of Adel High School and her marriage with Orie L. Jones, Jr. of Adel took place on February 20, 1943.

During her working years, along with being a homemaker and mother raising her children, Berdena became a beautician having attended the Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines. She owned Berdena’s Beauty Shop in Earlham and also the Four Corner Beauty Shop in Des Moines.

Berdena was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church and a friend of the First United Presbyterian Church of Earlham where she was a past Trustee and Sunday School and Summer Bible School teacher. She was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 64 years, serving as an officer for over 50 years and was elected Worthy Matron five times. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Iowa Genealogical Society, a past member of the Legion Auxiliary and she was an avid bridge player. Berdena also played the piano and when in high school she was a National Baton Twirler. She and Orie enjoyed many years teaching and participating in square dancing and western round dancing and were members of the Dallas Center and Winterset Square Dance Clubs.

Berdena is survived by her two children, John (Carol) Jones of Des Moines and Debbie Jones of Earlham; two grandchildren, Jenny Bittenbender of Seattle, WA and Jeff Jones of Maricopa, AZ; five great grandchildren, Aubrey and Olivia Bittenbender; Caeley, Chloe and Jared Jones; one brother, Harold Johnson, of Nevada, extended family and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orie who died on April 3, 2002, and a brother, Herbert Johnson.
