Katharina Hartman (nee Huschen) was born July 3, 1845 at Rogenstat, Ostfriesland, Germany. She was brought up in the German Lutheran church.
In 1866 she was united in marriage to Eno Peters To this union were born five children; Mrs. E. B. Vance, Denver, Ill.; Mrs. Bertha Owens, Carthage, Ill., Mrs. Anna Behrens, Carthage, Ill.; the others, a pair of twin girls dying in infancy. Her husband died in 1876 and in 1878 she was married to Jacob Hartman. To this union were born five children; Mrs. Minnie Van Winkle, Canton, Ill.; Conrad Hartman, East Peru; Edward Hartman, Murray; Mrs. Edith Sheets, Lorimor ; and one girl who died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, seven children, 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hartman and her family came to America in 1884. She lived near Bentley, Ill.for 12 years,
then lived near Barney, Iowa, for twenty two years. On Dec 1st, 1916, she and her husband moved back to Illinois to make their future home. She took sick shortly after reaching Illinois and died Jan. 26, 1917, with leakage of the heart. She was sick about four weeks. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Behrens, near Carthage, Ill. Her age was 71 years, 6 months and 23 days.The funeral was held at the German Lutheran church near Carthage Monday, Jan. 29th and she was laid to rest in the German cemetery.
