Rites Held for Metta Thornburg

Metta C. Thornburg, a former Winterset resident, died at the Maple Linn Manor in Earlham last Thursday, January 16. She was 88 years of age.

Mrs. Thornburg was born at Doniphan, Nebraska on April 15, 1886, the daughter of Isaac and Celestia Brewer Bardrick. She was married to Joseph Clarence Thornburg in Madison County on February 14, 1905.

Mrs. Thornburg had been a resident of Madison County for the past 76 years.

Survivors include one son, Fred Thornburg, and two daughters, Hazel Thornburg and Mrs. Harold (Verdie) Craft, all of Des Moines. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Thornburg was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, as well as her parents, one brother and five sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandubuer officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
