February 4, 1917 - June 22, 2015

Doris Wilkie, 98, of Winterset died Monday, June 22, 2015, at Winterset Care Center South in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26, at the Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset where a luncheon will immediately follow services. Burial will be in the Earlham Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 until service time at Ochiltree’s. Memorials may be directed to the Winterset Library and/or the First United Presbyterian Church of Winterset.

Doris Ruth McMullin, the daughter of John and Sally (Oberwetter) McMullin, was born February 4, 1917, at her home in Minburn, Iowa. She grew up in Adel and graduated from Adel High School in 1935. She received her teaching certificate to teach country school following her high school graduation. She married James Wilkie on June 5, 1938, in Adel, Iowa. He preceded her in death December 1993.

Doris loved being a farm wife and the farm life spending more than 70 years on the farm. She was an avid gardener, raising both beautiful flowers and produce which she canned. Doris was very talented with her hands and could sew, embroider, needle point, crochet, make afghans and smocking. She was also a talented quilter and made many corn husk dolls. Doris also enjoyed doing her daily crossword puzzles and reading countless library books. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, 50-year member of the Chautaugua Club and bowled in league for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Gail) Leeper of Winterset and their children Darla (Paul) Millhollin; Kathy (Jim) Hooper; Jim (Diane) Leeper; and son, Roger (Marie) Wilkie of Kansas City, KS and their children, Rich (Kim) Wilkie; Robin (Pete) Manson; Jyl (Norbert) Lindig; 11 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; two sisters, Frieda (John) Stump and Jackie (Dick) Flinn.
