March 28, 1939 - June 18, 2015

Richard Fairholm, 76, of Winterset, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, surrounded by his family at his home in Winterset, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 22, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 21st at the church with a Vigil and Rosary service starting at 7 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends at this time. Memorials may be directed to the family for later distribution. Condolences may be made online to the family at ochiltree.com.

Richard Fairholm, son of Verne and Florence (Brown) Fairholm, was born March 28, 1939 at home in Madison County, Iowa. He attended the Winterset School System graduating from Winterset High School in 1957. Richard was united in marriage with Luella King on October 20, 1962 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset.

He served in the army from 1962 to 1964. Richard worked for Pittsburg Des Moines Steel, now Chicago Bridge and Iron, for 41 years; retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Lion’s Club for 37 years and the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Richard coached little league baseball and softball for 17 years. He annually helped with the Covered Bridge Festival and performed in the Lion’s Club Specialty Crew. Richard enjoyed traveling with his family and attending all his grandkid’s activities. He also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. Simply put, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose family was his pride and joy.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years Luella Fairholm of Winterset; children: Christopher (Kelli) Fairholm of Winterset; Janelle (Gene) Cox of Winterset; Janiece (Orlando) Ochoa of Johnston; Jeffrey (Mary) Fairholm of North Liberty; Brian (Hollie) Fairholm of Winterset; Gregory Fairholm of Grimes; grandchildren: Kinsey (Andrew) Apodaca; Brittney (Andrew) Johnson; Jarret Fairholm; Eli Cox; Catherina Ochoa; Isaac Ochoa; Jacquelyn Fairholm; Olivia Fairholm; Ethan Fairholm; Brody Fairholm; Josie Fairholm; Caden Fairholm; Jessica Fairholm; Carlie Fairholm; sister in law Marilyn Fairholm of Winterset; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marvin Fairholm.
