Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa
December 1957

Zenis Alva Wynkoop, son of Simeon and Mary J. Wynkoop, was born near Earlham in Madison Co. September 19, 1878.

Early Monday morning, Nov. 18, he suffered a heart attack and was taken to Memorial hospital in Winterset. After a short confinement there he passed away early Sunday morning. Dec. 1, at the age of 79 years and two months.

When Zene was but a child the family moved to a farm in the Fairview neighborhood where he grew to young manhood. While living in the Fairview community he joined the church and has been a faithful attendant in the different communities in which he has lived. At the time of his death he was a member of the Earlham Methodist church and of its Sunday school.

After leaving the Fairview community he moved to the Pitzer community in Jackson Township where he spent several years farming. From there he went to Tripp County, South Dakota. While in South Dakota he was married to Minnie McComb of Winterset. To this union was born four children: Mrs. Marian Mark of near Booneville, Avery & Kenneth, both of Earlham, and Mrs. Roberta Hindman of Milo.

When they came back from South Dakota he bought a farm east of Winterset living there a short time and then bought the farm adjoining the old home place where he lived until after the death of his wife.

Before leaving the farm and for sometime after he spent several years as a salesman for a feed company. In this work he met many old friends and made new ones. He enjoyed this work very much, but he never lost his liking for the farm and its work. When leaving the farm he didn't give up the work entirely as he bought the acreage in Earlham where he was living at the time he was stricken.

In October 1949 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Pearl Spain of Casey and they since have made their home on the acreage in southeast Earlham. Mrs. Wynkoop could not have been more faithful in her care of Zene during their married life and during his last illness.
