Death of Mrs. Henry Rowe

Mrs. Henry Rowe, who has been a resident of Grand River township for 54 years, died Thursday, July 5th, at the age of 77 years. Mrs. Rowe has been in ill health about a year and a half, but was taken worse about four weeks ago.

Mrs. Rowe was a daughter of James and Lucinda T. Johns, and was born in Dayton county, Ohio, January 18, 1851. She was united in marriage to Henry Rowe, November 12, 1872, at Drakesville, Iowa. They resided here two years and then moved to a farm south of Macksburg, where they have since resided. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Mamie L. Southworth, and Mrs. Pearl L. Wilson, both of Macksburg, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rowe was an active member of the Women’s Relief Corps. For more than twenty-five years, and became a member of the Methodist church in Davis county, when she was a young girl.

The Rev. Mr. Athey conducted the funeral services at the home, Saturday afternoon, July 7th, and burial was made in the Moon cemetery. The Woman’s Relief Corps., had charge of the services at the cemetery. Those attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Milton Garnett, of Afton; Mr. and Mrs. Gardner Crawford and children, of Creston; Charles Rowe and Mr. and Mrs. J. Wyman Wilson and son, of Winterset; Mrs. William Bradley and Mason Bradley, of Carson, and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bradley, of Council Bluffs.

Mrs. Henry Rowe

Almira Jane Johns, daughter of James and Lucinda T. Johns, was born January 18, 1851, in Dayton, Ohio, and died July 5, 1928 at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 17 days, after an illness of a year and a half during which time she was unusually patient and thoughtful of others.

She united in marriage to Henry Rowe November 12, 1872 at Drakeville, Iowa. They lived two years in Drakeville, then moved to a farm south of Macksburg where they lived 38 years, moving to Macksburg 16 years ago. She has been a resident of Madison county 54 years. She enjoyed a married life of almost 57 years during which time she proved to be an exceptionally good wife and companion to her husband.

She is survived by he husband, two daughters, Mamie L. Southworth and Pearl P, Wilson both of Macksburg, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was an active member of the Woman’s Relief Corps for more than 25 years. She became a member of the Methodist church in Davis county, Iowa in her girlhood.
