ROBERT DOYLE LEGGETT, Des Moines, Iowa

January 6, 1930 - February 12, 2015 Resided in Des Moines, IA

Our world has lost a dear, wonderful man. Robert Doyle Leggett was born the fourth of five children to Orval and Pearl (DeLong) Leggett on January 6, 1930; he quietly and peacefully slipped away on February 12, 2015.

A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines. Family will be present to greet all visitors.

Bob was very proud of his service to this country in both the Navy, aboard the aircraft carrier Valley Forge, and later in the Iowa Air Guard, where he served for most of his adult life, retiring in 1985. He had memberships in many fraternal and military organizations including VFW, American Legion, Air Force Sergeants Association, Scottish Rite Free Masons and a Greeter with the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. His career took him from work at Solar Aircraft, a housing inspector of the City of Des Moines and the State of Iowa Health Department as an Environmental Sanitarian, retiring in 1995.

His hobby was reading. An aunt used to kid him as a child telling him he was born under a library table. His love of the written word was life-long, and there was always a book close by. Bob was truly one of a kind, a gentle man with a quick wit.

Missing and always loving him is his wife of 42 years, Sheelagh and little canine boy, Ben; children, Steven and Sherrill Leggett; grandson, Cody Leggett; step daughters, Susan Johnson and Ruth Stafford and Ruth's husband, Dr. Kent Schwaegerle; brother, Dale (Ardie) Leggett; half brother, Bill (Joy) Leggett; extended family and dear friends, Bud Rushenberg and Vicki Fogue.

Preceding Bob in life are his parents; son, Rodney; infant, sister, Zola Pearl; sister, Wanda and her husband, Perry Harrell; brother, Ronnie; and step sons, Mike and Andy Stafford.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or ARL, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines 50313.

ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES ~ DUNN'S CHAPEL.
