JOE DRAKE, Winterset

February 14, 1927 - May 2, 2015

Joe Drake, 88, of Winterset, died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 7 at Ochiltree’s, with burial to follow in the Moon Cemetery, Macksburg.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Joe Donald Drake, the son of Edgar and Loraine (Fife) Drake, was born February 14, 1927 in Madison County, Iowa. He married Margaret Kuhns and to this union three children were born. Later he married Catherine Simpson Ragan on March 7, 1975 in Las Vegas, NV.

During his working years, Joe was a farmer and also owned and managed an Allis Chalmers implement dealership named, Joe Drake Service and Implement in Winterset.

Joe was a member of the Hamm Radio Club and was also a pilot and owned his own plane for a time. He loved tractors and enjoyed restoring them as well as collecting toy tractors and airplanes. He also loved to go to flea markets and he was a talented musician, who could play the guitar, banjo, bass, fiddle and harmonica. All this said, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who will long recall how much he loved them and all the lessons he taught them.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Drake of Winterset; six children, Deb (Gary) Tittle of Lee Summit, MO, Mary Jo (Bob) Adams of Oak Harbor, WA; Mike Drake of Winterset, George (Donna) Ragan of Oakton, VA, Barb (Abe) McVay of Winterset, Carolyn (Don) McVay of Winterset; 10 grandchildren, Brad McVay, Jen Black, Magen McVay, Dustin McVay, Brandi McVay, Shannon Ragan, Fallon Ragan, Jeff Adams, Michelle Bosley and Renee Marley; and 13 great-grandchildren, Morgan and Brooklyn McVay, Ethan, Hunter and Austin Black, Regan McVay and Lilli Reidel, Tanner McVay and Drake McFarland, Alyssa, Sydney and Emily Adams, and Hunter Bosley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
