Emaline Horton Stribling, daughter of William and Elizabeth Mendenhall Horton was born in Hendrick County, Indiana, 9th month 10th day 1845. In early life she moved with her parents to West Newton, Marion County, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. She was a birthright Friend and received her education in the Friends Schools located at West Newton and Beech Grove, Indiana.

She came to Iowa in the spring of 1868 and taught the summer term of the Bear Creek School. Here she met John Stribling and on the second day of February 1868 she became his wife and together they established a home in the Bear Creek neighborhood where they resided for twenty years excepting for a short stay in Kansas.

On June 24, 1916 the husband departed this life leaving the wife and Pearl alone in the home, and the wife and mother was stricken with disease and for months she has hovered near the borderland. Oscar, the eldest son took her to his home in Paton, Iowa, where she has received every care and attention from lovinghearts and willing hands, but on Christmas Day 1927, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 25 days she laid aside life's cares and sorrows and fell asleep in Jesus to awaken in His likeness and to join her loved ones awaiting her coming and to be forever with the Christ she had loved and served so faithfully for many years.

In her going she leaves four children: Oscar of Paton, Iowa; Frederick of Jefferson, Iowa; Elizabeth Pearl and Earl of Des Moines. One son, Dr. James Stribling, and two daughters, Elfleeta Hoskins and Sula preceded her in death. She leaves four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; one sister Jennie Osborn, one brother James Horton, both of West Newton, Indiana; many other relatives and a multitude - who claim her as a dearly loved friend. We shall miss her smiling face and blessed presence but we are held and sustained by the blending of precious memories and high hopes for grace sufficient for each step of the way up and entrance into that heavenly home where she awaits our coming.
