ERNEST L. HOLMES

Ernest Lane Holmes was born in Pocahontas county, Iowa, Nov. 14, 1888, and passed from this life in Des Moines, July 16, 1920. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Holmes of Truro, to which place he moved with his parents while a small babe.

He was married to Lydia B. Day of Winterset, Sept. 23, 1912. To this union, three children were born, Myrtle Louise, who died in infancy; Helen Roberta and Ivan Ernest. Mr. Holmes united with the M. E. church of Truro, during the pastorate of C. K. Corkill in 1909.

He met with a serious accident while working with a tractor near Winterset, July 8th, and was taken at once to a hospital in Des Moines, and there was promise of early recovery. But about midnight July 16, the nurse was summoned to his room, and found him dying. Death is supposed to have been caused from a blood clot in the veins, which stopped circulation. No one will ever be able to realize the shock which came to his wife and relatives, when the word came that he was dead.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and two children, father and mother and one sister, Mrs. Maud Reed of Truro.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. O. Carder, pastor of the Truro Methodist church, and the body was laid to rest in the Hartman cemetery.
