Mary A. Holmes Hiatt was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, September 20, 1842. In 1854 she moved to Van Buren county, Iowa and three years later to Madison county. In 1865 she was married to Elijah Hiatt who died in 1903. From this union were born 5 children, Alonzo A. of Commerce; Viola and Martha Hazen of Creston; Ernest of Winterset; Wayne of Truro. Also two brothers survive, Archibald of Truro; James of Winterset. Burial was made from the Hartman cemetery.
