Kathryn Pearl Hayden was born in Madison county, Iowa, Oct. 17, 1900, and departed this life Aug. 26, 1917, at the age of 16 years, 10 months and 9 days at the Methodist hospital, Des Moines.
At the age of 10 years she united with the Christian church of Truro and later united with the M. E. church of East Peru, of which church she has been a faithful member. She took an interest in the work of the young people of the community and has led the Epworth League services. She was a member of Will Beeler's class and will be greatly missed by all. She was graduated from the East Peru public schools with the class of 1916. In the schools she had many friends and was a favorite with many.
Until the last two weeks of her life, she has enjoyed good health, when she suffered a severe attack of appendicitis and grew steadily worse until the end. She had appendicitis in its worst form, and she suffered greatly, but through it all she bore the pain and suffering in patience. Two very dear friends, but now one has been taken. Had she lived, she would have been married in a very few days to Mr. Joe Roberts of Winterset, a splendid young man who has been very devoted to her and especially so, during her last few days.
All that loving hands could do was done, but the Loving Father needed another jewel for His crown. Pearl, as she was commonly called, will be greatly missed. Those left to mourn the loss of a loved one are: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hayden, father and mother; two sisters; Mrs. Zoe Delong and Miss Mabel Hayden and a brother, Carroll, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church of East Peru, by Orville Marker, the pastor. He used as his text, Romans 8:15. The choir sang very beautifully Asleep in Jesus, Rock of Ages, and Abide With Me. Interment was made in the Peru cemetery.
