Obituary

Died: At her home, in Truro, Madison county, Iowa, Mrs Anna Hartman, February 3, 1897, aged 77 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Miss Anna Stultz was born in Stokes county, North Carolina, in 1819. At the age of 13 she removed with her parents to Putnam Co., Ind., where at the age of 22 she was united in marriage to J. D. Hartman. In 1854 they moved to Madison county, Iowa, where they lived happily and harmoniously until last June, when he was called to his final rest.

To this union were born eight children-five girls and three boys. One son and four girls still survive her. In 1868 she united with the Christian church and remained a faithful member till her death. After the death of her husband she never regained her usual health, but gradually failed, yet not suffering to any extent, and her life-long contentment gave place to a yearning and oft repeated desire to go “home.”

While we hold sacred in loving remembrance her cherished memory, which wait patiently the clearing away of the mists, where faith will be lost in sight. Beyond this watching and waiting there shall stream across the troubled sea the joy that is like an anchor to the soul, sure and steadfast. Take courage, surviving ones, your mother has answered to the roll call, and waits you there.

A poem follows.
